Splits Louis, a rising polymath who shape-shifts from rapper, RnB artiste, producer to comedian, recently dropped a fire project titled Maita Chihwa.
Maita Chihwa happens to be the totem of the artiste and we've seen historically that albums dedicated to totems tend to have a soulful impact. Look at Soko Matemai by Sharky for instance. Perhaps it's a spiritual connection that lets ones ancestors allow it to make so much waves.
As with any project by an upcoming artist. There will always be critics online suggestingwhat's missing or how things should not be done.
Self proclaimed music marketing experts came at Splits Louis for even selling his album and suggested that he should not sell yet as he is "unknown".
Splits would have none of that and go on to make a post to defend his art. Though I am not a proponent of selling music in 2019 (read why here) I support his position on that because i believe that everyone decides their own model of selling and it's totally okay for artistes to test concepts they choose.
There is no artist that can ever fully authentic or manage to do anything by listening to various opinions. Many listen to the noise and shut out their inner voice.
Here is a person who can't decide which country they are from and likes follow backs telling Splits what his sweat is worth...
After seeing Split's commitment to asserting the value of his music I feel even more confident in his value in the market. Value is always decided at the beginning.
In this industry if one allows people to sideline them as "up-coming" they will forever be in the upcoming lane and working their butt's of for exposure.
Besides there is one free track on the album, the dedication to his Mother. "Maita Chirandu"
A good balance since the album title is his partenal totem. Get the song here
Those who say they do not know Splits yet but are arguing about him are a special type of neurotic because if they know him enough to argue about if his music is worth it, it means they are aware of him. So it has been their choice not to know his music, because if they were really coming with the negativity from a place of building they would first ask if there are links to previous music.
In any case the purchasing of the album has not been forced upon anyone.
In other words those who feel it's a risk to buy it should let it pass them by and those who are confident in him and have dollars to spare can buy. Siple!
Why are they not using that same energy to get to know him. He has previously put out a large body of music in previous years but he cannot continue to do so.
Splits Louis has planted the right seed by asserting whom he he sees himself as in this industry and he will win or lose on his own terms, not based on another minds reality. We are always fighting to be accepted by artistes from other countries that share a fraction of DNA with Zimbabweans but cannot accept those among us whose DNA is 100% us.
With that said, I advise him to let that be the last he even has to offer an explanation for his path because sometimes by doing so we feed the energy being put pout by those who are open enough to show us they do not believe in us.
Paying attention to them, even as I did in this entire article is in fact giving the impression that their opinions matter above our own convictions.
So I'll stop here, to direct the energy at what we should be talking about.
The Splits Louis Album - Maita Chihwa.
A fire project as earlier mentioned. Let's value the work and passion by supporting our own people.
The details for purchasing this great body of work are below and a bonus fun fact is I was honoured to feature on Track 12 (maybe that's why I'm a proponent of give us that paper right?)

Well here is Splits perspective.... (though he may want to blue tick that energy in future)
